About GM Vertex
GM Vertex Limited is an independent software company registered in the United Kingdom and based in Manchester. The company develops custom applications for clients and creates its own digital products, working on a small number of projects at a time.
A small studio, deliberately
The company was formed to do one thing properly: build practical software. That covers commissioned applications for businesses and individual users, and our own digital products developed in the same way.
We are not a large consultancy and do not present ourselves as one. Projects are taken on when we have the capacity to give them proper attention, which keeps the standard of the work consistent and keeps communication direct.
Most of what we build is used internally by the people who commissioned it — the kind of software that rarely gets shown publicly, but that a team depends on every day. That work suits us. It rewards understanding a process in detail and getting the unglamorous parts right.
We would rather be judged on software that is still in daily use two years after delivery than on how it looked at launch.
Five commitments on every project
Clear project requirements
Work does not start until what is being built has been described plainly enough for both sides to recognise it. Vague briefs produce software nobody wanted.
Practical software design
Interfaces are built around the task, not around a feature list. If a screen exists, someone should have a reason to open it.
Reliable development processes
The same stages, checks and handover steps apply to every project, so the outcome does not depend on how busy a particular week happened to be.
Long-term maintenance
Software is written to be changed later. Structure, naming and documentation are treated as part of the deliverable, not as tidying up.
Direct communication
Clients speak to the people building the software. Questions are answered without being passed along a chain, and problems are raised as they appear.
