Digital products

Alongside client projects, GM Vertex Limited develops software of its own. These are applications intended for practical, everyday use rather than large enterprise systems, and they follow the same development discipline as commissioned work.

Product development at GM Vertex Limited covers the full lifecycle: designing the application, building it, keeping it maintained after release, and distributing it to the people it is meant for. This page describes the kinds of software we work on and how that work is organised — it is a statement of activity, not a catalogue.

Areas of product work

Where our own applications sit

Each area below reflects a type of everyday problem worth building for: information that needs a structure, work that needs a sequence, or a routine task that takes longer than it should.

Organisation and productivity tools

Applications for keeping work ordered — planning, prioritising and reviewing what needs doing, for a small team or one person.

Digital record management

Software for holding records in a consistent structure, with straightforward entry, retrieval and export rather than heavyweight administration.

Task and workflow utilities

Focused tools that follow a repeated sequence of steps: assignments, checklists, statuses and simple handovers between people.

Information-handling applications

Applications that collect, organise, filter and present information so it can be read and acted on without manual reformatting.

General-purpose business software

Practical everyday applications for common administrative needs, built to be picked up quickly and used without training material.

Product lifecycle

How a product is taken forward

01

Design

We decide what an application is for, who it is for, and where the boundary of the first version sits. Anything outside that boundary is recorded, not built.

02

Development

The application is built in working increments, so functionality can be reviewed as it appears rather than only at the end.

03

Maintenance

Once released, an application needs continued attention — correcting faults, keeping up with platform and browser changes, and refining areas that users find awkward.

04

Distribution

Making the application available to the people it was built for, with the supporting information they need to start using it.

Product enquiries

Have an application idea that needs building?

We also take on product development for others — taking a concept from an outline through design, build and release, and maintaining it afterwards.
